Although added as the final details of the painting, this piece began with the birds. Small and almost distant, flying together through the centre of the landscape.

Everything else feels grounded - still water, softened reflections, and trees held close to the earth. But the birds bring movement - a sense of lifting.

The touches of gold in the trees were added gently, like light catching for a moment before disappearing again.

For me, this piece became about the feeling of looking up after a long time spent looking inward. It’s about that subtle moment of release, of feeling ready to rise above what once felt heavy.

This is an acrylic painting on a 50 x 50cm box canvas with painted edges.
