This piece was inspired by somewhere close by - quiet walks through the green spaces at Witton Castle, pausing by the lakes, watching the swans and their cygnets move across the water.

There was something about seeing them together that stayed with me. A sense of becoming, slowly and in its own time.

The reason behind painting three cygnets in this piece is that they symbolise the past, the present, and what’s still to come. They all exist softly alongside each other and signify something small, still growing, but already moving toward what it will become.

This is an acrylic painting on a 80 x 60cm box canvas with painted edges.
